Iconic Sounds In Games

Within the gaming industry there are a lot of sounds that is extremely memorable to everyone who has played them. Even for people that have never played the game that a sound came from could know it, this is how sounds in games become iconic and recognisable by a lot of people. In this blog i will be covering three different sounds from games and explain why they are iconic.

Mortal Kombat - Finish him (1992-2017)

In the original Mortal Kombat games are many iconic sounds that could be well known by a lot of people, I decided to only use one. When you get the enemy player's health down to a certain point you can do "Finisher" and the game would say "Finish Him" to signify that you could do a finisher. This is not the only sound effect in the Mortal Kombat series there is the "Brutality" sound effect this is where you kill the enemy without taking damage.

Skyrim - Fus Ro Dah

In the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim there a quite a few memorable sounds, but the most well known sound out of all of them is the shout "Fus Ro Dah". This shout is the most iconic sound from skyrim as it is the first one you get and it can be quite buggy because it gives npc's/enemies rag doll physics  which makes it funny. Even people who don't play skyrim will know this sound beause it is so well known.

Metal Gear Solid - Alert!

In every Metal Gear Solid game there where areas were you could use stealth.Just like real life it is hard to tell if someone has noticed you along with a wide range of factors that could affect some people. So Konami found a way to counteract this problem with a visual and audio cue. The cue was very effective as the audio cue could often make the player jump as it sounds similar to a siren.
